Summer 2024 Training Camp - Norway & Sweden

Hello everyone!

I am excited to share that I, along with four teammates and our coach from the Alberta World Cup Academy are planning to attend a training camp in Norway and Sweden this August. We are all members of the National Ski Team (NST), and we have found that this trip will be super important for the upcoming ski season.

Why This Camp is Important

Usually, the NST offers a robust training camp program. However, this year, the opportunities for external exposure and specialized training have been limited. With only one altitude camp scheduled in Park City later in the year, we have identified a significant gap in our preparation—especially in areas like sea-level training, homologated (FIS Approved) roller ski tracks, and international competition exposure.

Why Norway and Sweden?

Our home base in Canmore, AB, provides world-class training facilities but, it lacks certain conditions that are vital for our growth. After careful consideration, we determined that Torsby and Trondheim in Norway and Sweden offer the perfect environments to fill these gaps:

  • Torsby: Known for its ski tunnel (Torsby Skidtunnel), this location provides excellent facilities for both classic and skate techniques on snow, even in summer. It also features a roller ski track, running trails, a gym, hostel, and restaurant, making it an ideal training spot.

  • Trondheim: This city will host the 2025 World Championship in Nordic disciplines. Its summer roller ski track, which will be used for the championship, allows us to familiarize ourselves with the competition venue. Additionally, Trondheim will host broadcasted roller ski races from August 14th to 17th, where we will compete against national teams from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Italy, France, and Switzerland.

Our Schedule

Here’s a brief overview of our training camp schedule:

  • August 2nd: Arrive in Oslo, Norway

  • August 2nd-5th: Adjust to the time zone and utilize the roller ski tracks in Holmenkollen and Lillomarka

  • August 5th-12th: Travel to Torsby for quality technique training on snow in the ski tunnel

  • August 12th-19th: Move to Trondheim for roller ski races and training with various national teams

  • August 19th: Travel back to Oslo, with a stop in Lillehammer

  • August 20th: Depart from Norway and return to Canada
