First 3 days in Norway
Day 0:
Luckily we all made it to Norway with no issues. No missed flights and we got all of our bags (except Xav, whose bag was only one day late). An awesome way to start the trip! We all met up in Oslo because we took different flights to get over here. After we met up we drove to Havard Moseby’s house where we had been staying for the last couple of days. After getting unpacked we went for a little run to get the flight out of our legs and get some blood pumping. This left us hungry! So we stopped by the grocery store to get some food for the next couple of days. We couldn't leave the store without a bag of candy. This grocery store had the best candy selection/ buffet ever. Hands down best part of the day.
Day 1:
The first day in Norway we woke up from a good sleep. The jet lag hadn't hit most of us yet because of the previous long travel day. We joined up with some local skiers (Iver Wang Johansen and Anton Jensen (A local legend)) for two skis around the Oslo area. It was so cool to see Oslo from roller skis. It's crazy to see the difference between how cars act towards roller skiers in Canada and Norway. There were also a lot of bike paths for us to roller ski around so we could navigate through Oslo without going on many roads. Halfway through our morning roller skiing, we got to stop by Tormod’s sister's place to say hi and eat some Norwegian cinnamon buns. For our evening ski, we got to ski through an awesome quiet forest around a lake called Maridalsvannet. Between our workouts, we stopped by a local soccer match and watch two teams play.
Day2:
Interval day. Day 2 was our first interval of the camp. We got to go to Holmenkollen to ski which was cool to see. We have only seen it in the winter so it was cool to see it in the summer. That morning we woke up to some heavy rain so luckily not much traffic at the roller ski track! As soon as we got ready to do our intervals the rain let up so it was awesome weather.
What's next:
Tomorrow we head off to Torsby to do some snow skiing. We are all super excited to see what the tunnel is about and get some time back on snow! We also get to meet up with some other Canadians there because the Dev and Para teams are there. We are going to also stop at a sports store here in Oslo before heading to Torsby to get some supplies for the races in Trondheim. Overall, it has been an awesome start to the camp and we are super excited for the rest of it!
We just want to say thank you so much to all of you, the donors, who have helped get us here. We really appreciate the support you have provided! We would not be here without it. There will be lots more blogs and updates along the way so stay tuned to get the latest updates!
